Residential architecture studio

1 — About the Project

This residential architecture studio focused on thoughtful, site-responsive homes. Their work balances materiality, light, and spatial flow, creating spaces that feel both refined and deeply liveable.

I designed a website experience that reflects the studio’s approach; quiet, intentional, and grounded in the details. The goal was to create a digital presence that feels as considered as the architecture itself, while clearly communicating the studio’s work and philosophy.

2 — The Challenge

Architecture websites often fall into two extremes: overly minimal to the point of being unclear, or overly dense with information that distracts from the work itself.

The challenge was to strike a balance between clarity and restraint. The site needed to showcase projects in a way that felt immersive and editorial, while still guiding users through the studio’s process, services, and point of view.

It also needed to appeal to a specific audience: clients investing in residential architecture, who are often less interested in technical detail and more focused on feeling, trust, and alignment.

3 — The Process

I looked at a range of high-end residential studios and identified a common gap — many sites relied heavily on visuals but lacked narrative. The opportunity was to create a clearer sense of story without overwhelming the user.

The direction focused on pacing, hierarchy, and negative space, allowing each project to feel intentional rather than rushed.

Structure & User Flow: The site was structured to feel intuitive and calm. Key sections included selected works, studio overview, and a simple pathway to enquiry. Navigation was kept minimal, with a strong emphasis on scroll-based exploration and large-format imagery to mirror the experience of moving through a physical space.

The interface uses restrained typography, generous spacing, and a neutral palette to let the work speak first. Subtle transitions and image sequencing create a sense of rhythm, reinforcing the studio’s attention to detail.

Project descriptions were treated as short narratives rather than technical summaries, helping potential clients connect with the intent behind each space.

4 — The Outcome

The final website positions the studio with clarity and confidence, presenting their work in a way that feels elevated but accessible.

The design supports both visual storytelling and usability, allowing potential clients to explore projects at their own pace while building trust in the studio’s process and philosophy. The result is a digital experience that aligns closely with the architecture itself; considered, calm, and quietly expressive.
