JCS Brand identity refinement
Updated: Oct 27
An established identity, refined for what's next.
JCS needed an identity that could retain the familiarity of its existing brand while creating a more cohesive foundation for its evolving skincare business.

The starting point
The project began with an existing brand board for JCS Skin Boutique, which established the initial visual direction through a distinctive monogram, refined typography and a palette of blush pink, gold and complementary neutrals.
Rather than starting again, the opportunity was to build on this foundation: preserving the recognisable elements of JCS while refining the identity for the brand's next stage.
Evolving the direction
The first stage focused on developing a broader direction for the JCS brand.
The strategic recommendation was to refine the existing monogram into a master brandmark that could extend across JCS Skin Clinic, JCS Cosmeceuticals and a potential future supplements range.
This established a central design principle: one recognisable identity, with flexibility across different parts of the business rather than separate identities for every offering.

The identity development explored different ways to refine the existing JCS monogram while retaining its distinctive character. The process considered letterform relationships, stroke consistency, spacing, optical balance and how the mark would work alongside Founder, Joanna's full name.
The exploration allowed the identity to evolve through considered adjustments rather than an unnecessary departure from its origins.

Developing a flexible logo system
As the identity developed, the focus shifted towards creating a logo suite that could adapt to different applications while maintaining a consistent visual language.
The refined system includes stacked and horizontal configurations, alongside versions incorporating Joanna's name and the Skin Clinic and Cosmeceuticals descriptors.
Typography, spacing and hierarchy help each element work together, while allowing the descriptors to be used flexibly where a complete logo lock-up isn't required.
Documenting the identity
The final stage brought the identity into a documented system, establishing guidance for consistent use across future brand applications.
The logo guide covered colour variations, logo configurations, clear space, minimum sizing and recommended usage. Together, these guidelines provide a practical reference for maintaining the integrity of the identity as it is applied across different formats.
The outcome
The project evolved the original JCS identity into a more considered and flexible visual system.
Through monogram refinement, responsive logo configurations and documented usage guidelines, the identity was developed to maintain continuity with the existing brand while supporting its broader direction.
The result is a cohesive foundation for JCS Skin Clinic and JCS Cosmeceuticals, with a system designed to accommodate different applications without losing its recognisable core.
